Pageonce Mobile Wallet panel at SXSW

Self-Employed to Get New Tax Break

At the end of September the small business jobs legislation that was signed into law included a new tax break for the self-employed. The self-employed who carry their own health insurance have always been able to deduct the cost of premiums when calculating federal income taxes. But the new provision will allow them to deduct those costs before figuring their payroll taxes, which is a 15.3% tax that covers Social Security and Medicare.
